HABITUS

A bicycle, a camera, a tent, a sleeping bag, a few items of clothing – and myself.
While traveling along the Adriatic coast of Italy, I stopped each evening during the blue hour at a spot by the sea.
There, I asked people passing by to cover their heads with the objects they had brought to the beach.

The starting point of the series is a quote by Pierre Bourdieu:
“The ‘eye’ is the product of its history.”

At first glance, the sea may seem the same for everyone – open, vast, calming – yet it is perceived differently by each individual.
Our view of the world is shaped by personal experience, social background, cultural context, and family history.
The objects brought to the beach act as symbols of these individual stories.
They reveal how deeply our perception of seemingly shared spaces is influenced by our own biographies.
