HABITUS

Italy  I  2013

The series arose from Pierre Bourdieu´s statement “The ‘eye’ is a product of its history”.

At first sight, it seems the sea is the same for everyone.
Nevertheless, everyone sees and perceives it differently because of their own past and socialization by culture, environment and family.
During my cycling trip from the North to South Italy I spontaneously asked passers-by in the so called "blue hour" to empty their bags and put them over their heads. The items which they brought to the sea should act as symbols of the prior history through which they perceive/see the sea.
