Italy I 2013
The series arose from Pierre Bourdieu´s statement
“The ‘eye’ is the product of its history”.
In July 2013 I made trip with my bicycle from Venice to the South of Italy. My bicycle, my camera, a tent, a sleeping bag, some clothes and myself. Every evening, close to the so called “Blue Hour”, I stopped at the sea side and asked passers-by to cover their heads with the things they brought to the sea,
At first sight, it seems the sea is the same for everyone.
Nevertheless, everyone sees, and perceives it differently as of their own past, their social status and their socialization through their family and surroundings. The items which they brought to the sea should act as symbols of the prior history through which they perceive / see the sea.
